From Melaka, we got the bus to Mersing so we could get the ferry over to Tioman Island. We knew we would have missed the last ferry by the time we arrived and were only going to overnight here, but ended up staying 3 days.

The Embassy is a 27 room hotel in Mersing town centre. The rooms were basic but clean with a very comfortable bed and pillows. Rooms without aircon would be cheaper. The TV only picked up 2 local channels and ESPN, which meant Peter had all the football and motorbike racing he could ask for. We had a room at the back, the front ones may be a little noisy.

Staff were very friendly and accommodating, if a little forgetful when it came to emptying the litter bin and leaving clean towels (they took the dirty ones, just didn't leave clean ones).

There is a canteen on the ground floor, but a local told us the food isn't the best (and thankfully told us where to go for the best) but is reasonably priced for a drink.

Location is as good as you'll get in Mersing - less than 5 minutes walk to the bus and ferry terminals, and being a small town, all the shops you could want within a couple of streets. There is a free community wifi signal which can be picked up about 50 metres from the hotel entrance or at it's strongest at the excellent Indian canteen opposite the Chinese Lucky Restoran.

This hotel was excellent value for money and we wouldn't hesitate coming back here.
