The Cyclo is a small guesthouse/restaurant/bar with only a handful of rooms a few blocks back from the waterfront near 'artist' street.

The old colonial building has been very nicely renovated in recent times, and all of the furniture was near new. The bed was nice and comfortable but the pillows were a bit too hard for our liking. The rooms are very large with the expected high ceilings and the windows have fly screens, but it was just the wrong side of noisy on a morning to be able to have the window open. The air conditioning unit seemed to think it was tropical in the room even when it was icy and continued blowing out freezing air whenever we tried it. The huge room was also big enough for a small dining table and 2 chairs.

The WiFi was free but the signal came and went, although it was a lot better from downstairs in the bar area. On the 1st floor there is a pool table and seating area, although neither were used much in the 3 days we were there. The killer about the Cyclo is not of it's own making. There is a beer garden directly opposite which starts up at about 6pm each night and goes until midnight. There is very loud and very bad live music interspersed with some of the worst karaoke I've ever listened to. The beer garden seems to be very well frequented and only by locals, which means it probably won't be going out of business any time soon.

The Cyclo is a lovely building with lots of character, the staff are very friendly and efficient and you'll enjoy it if you don't go to bed too early or are not reliant on in-room internet access.

Even with reservations about it, I think we'd probably go back there.
